Mirrors: A Play on Eating Disorders
Alice's mind is a powerful thing. Diagnosed with bulimia, she embarks on a journey of healing and reflection. As she falls down the rabbit hole of her illness, the more absurd her reality becomes. Her only comfort comes from an unconventional group therapy who help the road to recovery become less isolating. Mirrors reflects on the absurd, humorous, and tragic realities of living with eating disorders.
From Concept to Creation:
Nominated for Pitch's Best of 2020 awards, Mirrors was originally thought up as an idea in 2010. Then it was realized during my MFA thesis project in 2015. The original piece was 7 minutes long. It went on to become a one woman short at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2016, part of Triumvirette. Now it is a fully realized one act, with hopes of returning to Fringe and other venues across the world, with its NYC coming up in May 2022.
A production workshop with Bodhi Theatre debuted on September 15, 2018 at Bee House in Kansas City. The text has also been workshopped with theatre students at Grandview High School in KC. She has continued to develop the text, and in February, 2020, Kansas City Public Theater debuted the world premiere of Mirrors during their theatre lab series.
